Battle Against the Telephone Companies

BATC Logo

While the internet is dubbed as the medium of the future we don't all have free access to it. As an internet surfer you must be aware of the fact that some countries in the world have very cheap phone usage, while others do not. The thing is that the countries (or to better phrase that: the companies in a country) that provide cheaper phone usage essentially provide that particular country access to the future while the countries with the more expensive phone lines are shutting us down. Sooner or later the countries with access to the future are going to be more technically advanced while the other follow shamefully in defeat....
Okay, I'm being a little over dramatic here (a lot over dramatic, actually) - but I'm trying to sell you a point here. I'm trying to make a difference here and you can help. It's easy, it's free and I believe that it can help a lot of people (you included!).

With this site I want to try and bring all surfers under one roof and make them all equal. Stand up for your right (as Bob Marley said) and add any of the available banners on your web page, linking to this site (http://batc.freeservers.com). If you don't have a web page, put a link in your signature file. Make a difference by standing up for what you believe! Tell all your friends about this page and tell them to link, too! Imagine if suddenly this page became the most famous webpage on the internet. Imagine the message that we'd pass on!

I didn't create this page to make a name for my self or be a smart-ass... I don't need to get many hits to boost my advertisements or anything. I created this page to make a difference (with your help of course!). It doesn't matter if you're European or American, African or Asian. What matters is that you're an internet surfer and we're all working together. No nationalities, no boundaries - just like the internet was meant to be, before it got all hype (and expensive).

Here follows a part from The Conscience of a Hacker - by the Mentor (download the whole text file here). I think it express the views of the people who single-handedly created the internet and who still (behind the scenes) maintain it...

This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the
beauty of the baud. We make use of a service already existing without paying
for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering gluttons, and
you call us criminals. We explore... and you call us criminals. We seek
after knowledge... and you call us criminals. We exist without skin color,
without nationality, without religious bias... and you call us criminals.
You build atomic bombs, you wage wars, you murder, cheat, and lie to us
and try to make us believe it's for our own good, yet we're the criminals.

Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is
that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like.
My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me
for.

I am a hacker, and this is my manifesto. You may stop this individual,
but you can't stop us all... after all, we're all alike.
